| During the past decade, Nebraska ’s foreign-born population grew faster than that of any other Midwestern state. However, according to a new report by The Century Foundation, the state has not shown a clear resolve to address challenges and opportunities posed by the rapid increase in the immigrant population.

| As Georgia’s Immigrant Population Grows, So Does Political Resistance

| This year, Georgia passed the most sweeping immigration reform bill ever passed by any state. The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act (SB529) focused on unauthorized immigration and encompassed issues pertaining to public employment, law enforcement, emergency assistance, tax withholding, education, and health care. According to a new report from The Century Foundation, the legislation is the culmination of various efforts by Georgia ’s lawmakers to grapple with unprecedented demographic changes and the new flow of immigrants into the state over the past decade

| Immigration in Minnesota: Spending Cuts and Growing Partisan Divide

| Minnesota is a low-immigration state, but exaggerated perceptions of the size of the immigrant population have kept it in the news, as has a political divide on the topic among state politicians and residents, according to a new state study for The Century Foundation written by Katherine Fennelly, professor of public affairs at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota.

| North Carolina: One of Immigration's New Frontiers

| Over the past 15 years, North Carolina has had the highest rate of increase of Latino immigration of any Southern state – accounting for more that 27 percent of the state’s population growth. According to a new report from The Century Foundation, the response of the State of North Carolina to Latino immigration has been a mixed one, but has turned more negative as time has passed and the number of immigrants has increased.

| Iowa is increasingly becoming a “new destination” state for thousands of immigrants, particularly Latinos, who accounted for 77 percent of the state’s total population growth between 2000 and 2004 and now comprise Iowa’s largest minority group. A new report from The Century Foundation examines the difficulties Iowa has encountered in adjusting to those new residents.
